This site brings together public data from the Government of the Slovak Republic to help you understand the bigger picture behind citizenship applications and decisions.
Online forums offer valuable personal experiences, but every application is different, and completed timelines are inherently backward-looking. Someone receiving a decision today after ten months tells us how long their application took. It does not tell us how long a new application will take, or how workloads and processing activity might have changed in those ten months.
Official statistics add that missing context. Are application numbers rising? Are more decisions being recorded? How has activity changed over time? This site helps you explore those questions and many others, while making clear what the available data can and cannot tell you.
Descent context · assumes MOI receipt the following month · Adjust
Default: receipt on the first day of the following calendar month. This is a modeling assumption, not an official transfer rule. Dates select aggregate context; modeled workload is not your queue position or a decision forecast.
From application to citizenship
Submission, MOI receipt, a decision, notification, and acquiring citizenship are different events.
Submit your application
Apply at the relevant district office or Slovak consulate. Submitting there is different from the ministry receiving it.
The ministry receives and reviews it
Your application is forwarded to the Ministry of Interior for review. More documents or official checks may be needed.
A decision is made
The ministry can grant citizenship, reject the application, or stop the case. Being notified of a decision is separate from taking the oath and receiving the grant certificate.
- If granted
Receive the grant certificate
Citizenship is acquired when the grant certificate is received, after the oath where required.
Official sources
For application requirements and legal procedures, consult the Ministry of Interior’s guidance and the applicable legislation linked below. This site explains public statistics; it does not provide legal advice or assess individual eligibility.
Legal milestones do not necessarily identify the date used in a statistical release.
What the statistics show
These sources describe aggregate activity, not the progress of an individual application.
- Consular reports
- Annual application activity at representative offices. These figures do not establish when the ministry received each application.
- MOI applications
- Published application counts. The event that sets their reporting month is unconfirmed.
- MOI grants
- Reported grant counts. The event behind each reporting month is also unconfirmed.
- Rejections and discontinuances
- Annual reported decisions, not monthly histories of individual cases.
- Resident citizenship statistics
- Annual acquisitions by permanent residents of Slovakia, rather than worldwide grant totals.
- Slovak Living Abroad certificates
- A separate certificate process, not citizenship grants or a required stage in every citizenship application.
